The Monk is available for private functions, and over the years we've hosted everything from engagement parties to birthdays and corporate events.
We have a range of private plans available, which have flexible options attaining to food and drink. if you would like to hire us for any reason, then please get in touch here.

Everyone is welcome to pop in for a cocktail, beer or glass of wine, though, in consideration of our neighbours, we do close our doors to walk in customers at 10:30pm

Monday evening
We're closed on Monday , so we can all get some much needed rest and prepare for the rest of the week!
Tuesday - Thursday evening
Our prix fixe mid week menu, at £29 for 2 courses and £35 for 3 courses is designed by our chefs to be exceptional value for money, especially in these economically challenged times!! Everything is created and crafted in house and is peppered with a la carte options (for small supplements) if you fancy something even more special
Tuesday evening
It's all about wine on 'Tasting Tuesdays' Our prix fixe menu is in play, with some ad hoc wine flight options, as well as wines of the week. An opportunity to boost your wine knowledge and get to taste some wines side by side as well as explore lesser known regions and grape varieties. Simon's on hand if you'd like to ask any questions or just for some general wine banter (or bulls**t)!! This will go live from Jan 2024
Wednesday evening
Steak night
top steak and wine combos available to share, or to have all to yourself. All of our steaks are dry aged for a minimum of 30 days; from prime fillet steaks, to 16oz T bones and Chateaubriand; all paired, by Simon, with discounted, premium wines. If steak's not your thing, we still run our prix fixe menu.
Thursday evening
Seafood this evening; how about a dozen Colchester oysters with mignonette (we strongly recommend you order these before you come so as you're not disappointed if we run out), or our signature monkfish and chips (to die for!)? Lots of seafood to choose from, in addition to the prix fixe menu and all fresh on the day. Simon's paired wines of the week for only £23 and £26 (Previous bottles have included and cracking Picpoul de Pinet and a racy, elegant Sauvignon Blanc from Nederburg, Paarl in S Africa. God forbid that you simply loathe seafood, our prix fixe menu is also available!!
Friday & Saturday
It's the weekend! At the weekend we switch up to our A' la carte menus. You can see our sample menu on our 'Food at The Monk page' to get an idea of what we are all about. Or simply enjoy our cracking cocktails and check out our wine list.
